Jake Oettinger's back-to-back shutouts were crucial in the Dallas Stars' decisive 5-0 win against Edmonton, where he successfully stopped 35 shots, pushing his streak without conceding a goal to over 150 minutes. The Stars saw an early goal from Radek Faksa, who also provided two assists during a crucial second period, enabling the team to break their own record with an eighth consecutive win.
Oettinger expressed his pride in the team's historic achievement and his optimism for its future. This victory placed the Stars at the top of the Western Conference with 105 points, a close second overall in the NHL, trailing the New York Rangers by a single point.
Both Wyatt Johnston and Sam Steele added to the score with a goal and an assist each, alongside Tyler Seguin who netted a goal during a power play. The team's captain, Jamie Benn, scored his 19th goal of the season, edging the Stars closer to having seven players with at least 20 goals each.
Pete DeBoer, the coach for the Stars, praised Oettinger for his pivotal saves, which played a significant role in thwarting Edmonton's attempts at a comeback. On the other end, Edmonton's goaltender Calvin Pickard, was challenged with 27 shots, marking the Oilers' third shutout loss this season.
Recognizing Dallas' superior performance, Edmonton's coach Kris Knoblauch considered the defeat a revealing test that highlighted areas needing improvement for his team.
Faksa initiated the scoring a little over two minutes into the game, with an assist from Steel. Johnston added to the lead after returning from a penalty, again with Faksa's assistance. Benn and Steel then scored in quick succession, 22 seconds apart, later in the same period.
The second period opened with Seguin’s goal, with an assist
