Dallas Stars News & Updates

During a 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday evening, the Dallas Stars revealed a statue dedicated to Hockey Hall of Famer Mike Modano.

Modano, who holds the team records for most goals, assists, and games played, was visibly moved, shedding tears during a one-minute ovation from those in attendance. He highlighted the importance of the team's 1999 Stanley Cup win and its role in establishing a hockey culture in Dallas.

This statue of Modano now stands alongside that of Dirk Nowitzki, marking another tribute to a sports legend at the American Airlines Center. The unveiling event, impacted by weather, was shifted from Saturday afternoon to an indoor setting due to rain.

Modano spent the majority of his 21-year NHL career with the Stars, initially playing for the team when they were known as the Minnesota North Stars. After being the first pick in the 1988 draft, his impressive career led to his induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame and the retirement of his jersey number in 2014.

With a record of 50 goals in Dallas's inaugural season and maintaining his standing as the leader in goals (557), assists (802), points (1,359), and games played (1,459), Modano finished his playing days with the Detroit Red Wings.

His pivotal role in the 1998-99 season, scoring 34 goals and earning 81 points, propelled the Stars to their Stanley Cup victory.

Today, Modano contributes to the world of hockey as an advisor for hockey operations with the Minnesota Wild.
