In a critical turn of events during Game 3, the Dallas Stars overcame a challenging situation against the defending Stanley Cup champions. Trailing the series 2-0 and having suffered defeats in nine of their previous 11 encounters, the Stars demonstrated resilience.
Wyatt Johnston emerged as a key player, scoring two goals including the decisive one in overtime, leading the Stars to a 3-2 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday. Tyler Seguin contributed with an assist.
The game started off on a high note for Dallas, with Johnston scoring early in the first period and Miro Heiskanen extending the lead in the second period.
Nonetheless, the Golden Knights mounted a comeback with Brayden McNabb and Jack Eichel scoring, drawing the match level in the second period.
Despite Vegas goalie Logan Thompson's impressive efforts, Jake Oettinger's 32 saves for Dallas played a pivotal role. Johnston's impactful performance, encapsulated by his game-leading eighth shot resulting in the winning goal, was crucial.
Coach Peter DeBoer emphasized the importance of playing with a sense of urgency to prevent falling into a 3-0 series hole upon returning to Dallas.
DeBoer commended the team's progress, acknowledging their enhanced performance in Game 3 as opposed to their initial outings in the series.
