The Dallas Stars secured a victory over the Seattle Kraken with a 2-0 score, marking their second shutout in a row. Towards the end of the first period, Sam Steel and Wyatt Johnston scored in rapid succession, just 14 seconds apart.
In his debut for the Stars, Casey DeSmith made 25 saves, achieving his 11th career shutout. The team’s previous shutout was recorded by Jake Oettinger against the New York Islanders on Saturday.
Wyatt Johnston, who led his team with 32 goals last season, has been consistent with points in all three games this season. The last time Dallas had back-to-back shutouts was in March and April of 2023.
With new coach Dan Bylsma, the Kraken experienced their first shutout in three games. Last season, they faced seven shutouts.
The Stars are counting on significant performances from DeSmith in this early season period, as they have nine games scheduled within the first 17 days due to a Finland trip.
Johnston’s goal came after winning the faceoff, extending the Stars' lead to 2-0. They successfully defended against all four penalties, maintaining a 10-of-11 penalty-killing record for the season.
Looking ahead, the Kraken will face Nashville on Tuesday, while the Stars will wrap up their homestand with a game against San Jose.
