Jake DeBrusk quickly became the hero for the Boston Bruins by scoring a goal 25 seconds into overtime, securing a 2-1 win against the Montreal Canadiens on a Thursday evening.
The decisive goal from DeBrusk, with an assist from Brad Marchand, concluded an intense game at the Bell Centre, marking DeBrusk's 16th goal for the season. Earlier in the match, Danton Heinen also netted a goal for the Bruins.
For Montreal, Nick Suzuki was the only player to score, while Boston's goaltender Linus Ullmark made 18 saves. On the other side, Sam Montembeault managed to stop 22 shots for the Canadiens.
During the third period, the Canadiens had a power play opportunity but failed to make a dent. Likewise, Boston's power play attempt didn't lead to significant opportunities, despite Montreal successfully killing the penalty.
The atmosphere of the game was vibrant, with competing chants of support for both teams filling the arena, along with boos aimed at Marchand. Boston's recent domination over Montreal was evident, having won 13 of their last 14 encounters, highlighting the intense rivalry between the two.
Looking ahead, Boston is set to welcome the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, while Montreal is gearing up for a five-game road trip, which kicks off against the Calgary Flames.
