Detroit Red Wings News & Updates

The Detroit Red Wings have signed their top defenseman, Moritz Seider, to a seven-year contract valued at nearly $60 million, with an average annual value of $8.55 million.

Seider's absence from the initial day of training camp caused some concerns, but the deal was soon confirmed. Despite having limited financial room, the Red Wings managed to fit Seider's salary into their budget.

General Manager Steve Yzerman had earlier indicated optimism about securing the contract, stating that they hoped to finalize it sooner rather than later. Seider, at 23 years old, has been a key player for the Red Wings since being selected sixth overall in the 2019 Draft.

In the previous season, Seider recorded nine goals and 33 assists. His career achievements include 21 goals, 113 assists, and a total of 134 points in 246 games. He also won the Calder Trophy in the 2021-22 season, recognizing him as the NHL's top rookie.
