Jesper Bratt netted the decisive goal with just 74 seconds left on the clock, securing a 6-5 win for the New Jersey Devils against the Toronto Maple Leafs on a Thursday night.
This crucial goal by Bratt, his second of the match, came in the closing moments after Auston Matthews leveled the score for Toronto with less than five minutes remaining. Matthews, the league's top scorer, had just eclipsed Mats Sundin's record for most even-strength goals in the history of the Maple Leafs franchise.
For the Devils, Timo Meier contributed with two goals and an assist, with Erik Haula and Nolan Foote each finding the back of the net as well. On the Toronto side, John Tavares managed to score twice, and David Kampf also scored a goal.
The Devils are set to face off against Philadelphia on Saturday, and the Maple Leafs will be welcoming Detroit on the same day.
