New Jersey Devils News & Updates

Jake Allen blocked 36 attempts on goal as Timo Meier and Dawson Mercer both netted two goals, leading the New Jersey Devils to a 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Alexander Holtz added another goal, while Jesper Bratt, Tomas Nosek, Jack Hughes, and Luke Hughes each recorded two assists for the Devils. This win marks their third victory in eight games since Travis Green took over as coach.

For the Penguins, goals were scored by Marcus Pettersson and Bryan Rust. However, this didn’t prevent their losing streak from extending to nine defeats in the last 12 games, including 11 losses in their previous 13 games played away from home. Tristan Jarry managed to save 33 shots for Pittsburgh.

The Penguins have struggled to secure a win against the Devils since February 24, 2022, with a record of 0 wins, 6 losses, and 1 overtime loss since that date.

The deciding moment came with Meier’s power-play goal in the second period at 14:20, giving the Devils the lead. New Jersey then solidified their win with three additional goals in the third period, courtesy of Holtz and two from Mercer.

Looking ahead, both teams have games scheduled for later in the week: the Penguins are set to face Dallas on Friday, while the Devils will welcome Winnipeg on Thursday.
