Doug Armstrong has been named the General Manager of the Canadian men's Olympic hockey team for the 2026 season by the St. Louis Blues, where he serves as the current GM.
In addition, Armstrong is set to oversee the Canadian national men's team's management team throughout the upcoming two-year period.
At 59, Armstrong has held the GM position with the Blues since 2010, capturing the Stanley Cup in 2019. His resume includes participation in Team Canada's management, contributing to their Olympic gold medal victories in 2010 and 2014, as well as securing the 2016 World Cup of Hockey championship as General Manager.
For the 2026 Olympics in Italy, marking the event's return since the Sochi Games in 2014, Armstrong is tasked with the selection of both the players and the staff. He is also in charge of putting together Canada's contingent for the Four Nations Face-Off tournament, planned for next February.
His responsibilities extend to overseeing the Canadian teams at the IIHF world championships in 2024 and 2025.
Ryan Getzlaf, the erstwhile star of the Anaheim Ducks who hung up his skates in 2022, has been incorporated into the executive committee of Team Canada, taking on the role of player relations advisor. In this position, Getzlaf will facilitate communication between the players, the executive committee, and the management teams.
