In Carneys Point, New Jersey, a motorist is facing charges for causing the deaths of NHL player Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew. The 43-year-old driver, Sean Higgins, was found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.087%, which is above the legal limit.

The incident occurred on August 29th when the Gaudreau brothers were cycling. They were preparing to serve as groomsmen at their sister's wedding when Higgins' vehicle hit them, leading to their tragic deaths.

Sean Higgins, a father of two, admitted to drinking alcohol while driving on that day. His past includes instances of reckless driving and road rage, factors that also played a role in the accident.

Higgins could face up to 20 years in prison. Despite his background as an Iraq war veteran and holding a master’s degree, his recent transition to working from home had resulted in increased alcohol consumption and irresponsible driving.

Johnny Gaudreau, who was fondly called "Johnny Hockey," was a prominent NHL player and had secured a major contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets. His unexpected death has shaken the hockey world and beyond.

The bond between Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau was very strong throughout their lives. At their double funeral, their widows, both expecting children, delivered moving eulogies to honor their memory.
