Sudarshan Maharaj, the goaltending coach for the Anaheim Ducks affectionately known as Sudsie, has successfully beaten pancreatic cancer a year after his diagnosis.

Against daunting survival rates, Maharaj underwent a rigorous treatment regimen that included 11 rounds of chemotherapy and a major surgery to remove his gallbladder, along with sections of his pancreas, small intestine, and stomach. He underwent this treatment in Toronto and recently celebrated his recovery at a gathering.

Maharaj expressed his profound gratitude towards the Ducks organization for their unwavering support throughout his medical journey. He has been a pivotal part of the team since 2013 and ascended to the role of an NHL coaching staff member in 2016.

He also praised the broader hockey community for its incredible support, emphasizing its significance in his recovery. Maharaj, who spent his early years in Toronto and played professional hockey in Sweden before turning to coaching, credited his career path, including eight years with the New York Islanders, before joining the Ducks, as foundational to his recovery process.

In related news, Ducks assistant coach Mike Stothers is currently making positive strides in his treatment for advanced melanoma. Stothers plays a crucial role as a special adviser to the coaching staff for both the Ducks and their AHL affiliate in San Diego.
