The Winnipeg Jets have decided to extend Dylan DeMelo's contract for an additional four years, with the total value amounting to $19.6 million.
At 31 years old, DeMelo was on the verge of becoming an unrestricted free agent. His new contract raises his average annual salary to $4.9 million, which is a notable increase from his previous $3 million salary.
In the 2023-24 season, DeMelo played in every one of the 82 games and achieved career highs with 28 assists and 31 points. His plus-minus rating of plus-46 was second-best in the NHL, trailing only Gustav Forsling of the Florida Panthers, who had a plus-56 rating.
Additionally, DeMelo led the Jets in the number of blocked shots, totaling 139, and averaged 2:35 per game in shorthanded ice time.
Originally selected by the San Jose Sharks in the sixth round of the 2011 draft, DeMelo has recorded 144 points, consisting of 17 goals and 127 assists, and a plus-80 rating over 554 games with the Sharks, Ottawa Senators, and Jets.
