Edmonton Oilers News & Updates

During the Stanley Cup Final, Connor McDavid has accumulated 11 points over the course of five games, just shy of Wayne Gretzky's 13 points for Edmonton in 1988.

In comparison, his teammate Leon Draisaitl has faced difficulties in offensive play, managing only two assists in the series and failing to score in seven playoff games.

Draisaitl expressed his disappointment with his performance and highlighted the high expectations he holds for himself. He refrained from blaming the Panthers' defense or his linemates for his struggle.

Coach Kris Knoblauch recognized Draisaitl's overall contributions and suggested that Draisaitl might be too hard on himself. Dylan Holloway, who frequently plays alongside Draisaitl, encouraged him to keep up his current efforts.

This goalless stretch ties Draisaitl's longest of the season, bringing to mind his slump in October 2023. Nonetheless, Draisaitl remains confident in his ability to recover.

The Panthers are ahead in the series with a 3-2 lead, but Edmonton has secured victories in the last two games. Historically, only three teams have managed to push for a Game 6 after being down 3-0 in the Stanley Cup Final, with Toronto in 1942 being the only team to come back from such a deficit to win the Cup.

Draisaitl is aware of the historic stakes but emphasizes the importance of focusing on winning Game 6 before thinking about subsequent games.
