Edmonton Oilers Part Ways with Jack Campbell, Face Six Seasons of Salary Cap Implications

Sunday, June 30th, 2024

Edmonton Oilers News & UpdatesThe Edmonton Oilers have decided to buy out goaltender Jack Campbell, whom they previously contracted to a five-year deal with an annual value of $5 million in 2022. This choice will create a hit against their salary cap for the next six seasons. It will start with $1.1 million in 2024-25, increase to $2.6 million in 2026-27, and then reduce to $1.5 million for the final three years. Campbell's position with the team became uncertain after a rough beginning to the season, and he was subsequently surpassed by Stuart Skinner as the leading goaltender. With this buyout, the Oilers now have $12.933 million in available cap space to meet their needs. Calvin Pickard and Stuart Skinner, who have both signed two-year extensions, will continue as the Oilers' goaltending pair.
