Evgeny Kuznetsov, formerly a center for the Carolina Hurricanes, is set to extend his career in Russia by signing a four-year deal with SKA Saint Petersburg.
Two weeks ago, Kuznetsov and the Hurricanes reached a mutual agreement for him to leave, causing him to forfeit the final season of his $64.2 million contract. The specifics of his contract in the KHL have not been disclosed.
The Hurricanes had acquired Kuznetsov from the Washington Capitals in March. Although he contributed significantly during the Capitals' 2018 Stanley Cup victory, his performance has varied since then. This season with the Hurricanes, he managed to score 13 points over 30 games.
In 2019, the NHL suspended Kuznetsov for inappropriate behavior. Additionally, in February, he joined the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program, prompting the Capitals to place him on waivers.
