Minnesota Wild News & Updates

During a game where the Minnesota Wild triumphed over the St. Louis Blues, Filip Gustavsson, the Wild's goaltender, took full advantage of a remarkable chance. He completed the 4-1 win by scoring a rare goal for a goalie, making history as the first in the Wild franchise to achieve this feat.

With a shot from Pavel Buchnevich coming his way, Gustavsson quickly and accurately lifted the puck into an empty net with just 8.1 seconds remaining. This marked his first goal at any professional level and was the first in the NHL since Tristan Jarry scored in 2023.

Encouraged by his teammate Marc-Andre Fleury, Gustavsson decided to attempt the goal after consulting with him during a timeout called by the Blues. This achievement places him among the select group of 15 goalies who have scored in NHL history.

John Hynes, the coach of the Wild, who had seen a similar goalie goal happen in 2020, shared his admiration for Gustavsson's performance, calling it "great to see." Meanwhile, Jakub Lauko, a center for the Wild, described the moment as "unbelievable."

Gustavsson has had a strong beginning to the season, holding a 2-0-1 record and boasting a .948 save percentage, providing a significant boost to the Wild as they face injuries and a tough stretch on the road.

Despite his significant contributions, Gustavsson maintains a humble outlook, crediting his achievements to maintaining his position and focusing on straightforward saves.
