Players from the Florida Panthers have started a distinctive tradition before games by wearing customized bathrobes.
The bathrobes were originally given to the team for their trip to Finland, where they were victorious in both matches. The players have since embraced this practice, thinking that the attire brings them good fortune.
Matthew Tkachuk, a forward for the team, mentioned that they intend to continue wearing the robes as long as their luck holds. This tradition began from a group chat message sent by Aleksander Barkov, the captain, encouraging everyone to wear their robes to work.
While some team members initially had doubts, Tkachuk reassured everyone by sharing a picture of himself donning a robe. Despite this unconventional choice of clothing, the team maintains their professionalism and commitment to their responsibilities.
The concept of the robes started with Lucy Tallas, the goaltending coach’s wife. Both general manager Bill Zito and coach Paul Maurice favor this ritual, seeing its value in promoting team camaraderie.
Coach Maurice, though supportive, joked that he would refrain from wearing a robe on Saturday, humorously noting that the sight might not be one fans would appreciate.
