TAMPERE, Finland — Aleksander Barkov, the captain of the Florida Panthers, shone in his hometown, netting a goal and contributing three assists as the Panthers triumphed over the Dallas Stars with a score of 6-4 on Friday night. Sam Reinhart also dazzled, scoring twice to bolster the win for Florida.
The Finnish players in the matchup delivered standout performances. Barkov amassed four points, Anton Lundell scored a goal, and Niko Mikkola added an assist for the Panthers. On the Stars' side, Esa Lindell had both a goal and an assist. Marking the significant presence of Finnish talent, all seven Finnish players from both teams began the game on the ice.
Aaron Ekblad supported Florida's victory with three assists, contributing to the team's fourth consecutive win. Scoring contributions from Evan Rodrigues and Mackie Samoskevich supplemented the Panthers' offense, while Sergei Bobrovsky defended the net with 32 saves.
For the Dallas Stars, Tyler Seguin, Mavrik Bourque, and Jamie Benn each scored a goal. Additional assists were made by Matt Duchene and Ilya Lyubushkin, with Jake Oettinger making 22 saves despite the loss.
Upon arrival, the Florida Panthers honored Finnish culture by donning robes and sandals, an homage to Finland's sauna traditions, courtesy of a gift from Panthers' President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Bill Zito. The game began with a quick goal by Rodrigues just 28 seconds in, unsettling the Stars' defense. The six goals conceded by Dallas matched the NHL record for games played outside North America, previously set by Columbus against Colorado in Tampere on November 4, 2022.
An iconic moment came when Barkov became just the sixth European player to score in his hometown during a regular-season game held outside North America. He joined an exclusive list
