The Florida Panthers secured a place in the Stanley Cup Final by defeating the New York Rangers with a score of 2-1. Last year, they broke tradition by touching the Prince of Wales Trophy, but this year they chose not to, focusing instead on their ultimate objective of winning the Stanley Cup.
With 23 saves from Sergei Bobrovsky and goals from Sam Bennett and Vladimir Tarasenko, the Panthers emerged victorious. Although the Rangers had taken a 2-1 series lead earlier, they couldn't withstand Florida's relentless effort.
Coach Paul Maurice shared his pride in his team, noting their growth and resolve. Florida will compete against either Edmonton or Dallas in the Stanley Cup Final, starting with Game 1 on June 8th.
This victory marks the third instance of a Florida team winning the Eastern Conference. The Panthers also made history by becoming the first franchise to eliminate the top overall seed in consecutive years since Pittsburgh achieved the feat in 2016-2017.
The Rangers put up a strong fight but ended their season with a disappointing defeat. Coach Peter Laviolette acknowledged their hard work but stressed that their goal had been to win it all.
