In their first Stanley Cup victory, the Florida Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 in Game 7. A second-period goal by Sam Reinhart secured the win, while goalie Sergei Bobrovsky made 23 saves.
The Panthers had faced a challenging Game 7 after nearly losing a 3-0 series lead, a scenario only the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs had previously overcome in Stanley Cup Final history. Ultimately, Florida managed to emerge victorious.
Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov received the Cup from NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and handed it to Bobrovsky, acknowledging his critical contributions.
Coach Paul Maurice celebrated his first win in a long career, commending the team's unity.
Edmonton's star players, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, despite their playoff performances, could not secure a win in Game 7. McDavid, the top scorer of the playoffs, was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy.
The Panthers opened the scoring early in the first period, with the Oilers quickly responding. Reinhart's second-period goal once again gave Florida the lead.
Despite a strong effort from Edmonton in the third period, Bobrovsky remained steadfast to ensure the win for Florida, who celebrated amid a flurry of plastic rats, gloves, and sticks.
Edmonton's coach acknowledged the well-deserved victory for the Panthers, extending the Canadian Stanley Cup drought.
