Philadelphia Flyers News & Updates

Alexei Kolosov, a 22-year-old prospect for the Flyers, has decided not to attend rookie camp. He has requested to be loaned to Dinamo Minsk, but the Flyers have denied this, insisting that he honor his contract.

Hoping to avoid starting the season in the AHL, Kolosov seeks either a spot in the NHL or a stay in the KHL. The Flyers, however, have rejected his request for a KHL loan, arguing that he needs to adapt to North American hockey.

There are ongoing rumors of a potential trade, but any new team would need to persuade Kolosov to leave Russia. This standoff is reminiscent of the situation with Cutter Gauthier, who refused to play for the Flyers and was traded in January.

The Flyers are concentrating on fostering their internal culture and have welcomed Matvei Michkov, a highly regarded offensive prospect. General manager Daniel Briere expects some friction between Michkov and coach John Tortorella, who stresses accountability. However, Briere believes this will ultimately aid Michkov's development.

While acknowledging Michkov's talent, Briere has set modest expectations for his NHL rookie season, underscoring the difficulties of adapting to the world's premier hockey league.

The Flyers will begin their season in Vancouver on October 11th, with the goal of improving on last season's failure to make the playoffs.
