Frederick Gaudreau contributed significantly to the Minnesota Wild's success in Edmonton on Thursday, scoring twice and providing an assist in their 5-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers.
Matt Boldy, Marcus Foligno, and Marcus Johansson added to the scoring for the Wild, who have been victorious in five of their last seven matchups. Marc-Andre Fleury was strong in goal, stopping 29 shots.
For the Oilers, Leon Draisaitl, Corey Perry, and Jeff Skinner found the back of the net, though the team has struggled recently, losing three out of their last four matches. Stuart Skinner recorded 21 saves in the game.
The game had an unusual start as Draisaitl's shot deflected into the Wild net just 27 seconds after the opening faceoff, but the Wild quickly regained control from there.
Kirill Kaprizov provided an assist on Boldy's goal, marking a point streak that now stands at seven games. Kasperi Kapanen made an appearance for the Oilers for the first time since being picked up from St. Louis.
A pivotal moment occurred in the second period when Johansson scored, giving the Wild the lead. Gaudreau followed with two additional goals that extended their advantage.
The Wild have achieved 30 road victories against the Oilers, marking their highest total against any team, with a 19-5-0 record in Edmonton since the 2010-11 season.
Looking ahead, the Wild are set to play Calgary on Saturday, while the Oilers will be hosting the New York Rangers.
