Brett Howden, Tomas Hertl, and Pavel Dorofeyev contributed to the Vegas Golden Knights' 3-1 win against the Anaheim Ducks. Ilya Samsonov, in his first appearance for Vegas, stopped 22 shots, and James Reimer made 29 saves for Anaheim.
This victory gives Vegas a perfect start to the season, with a record of 3-0-0 in their first three matchups, marking their fifth successful start since joining the NHL in 2017. In games against the Ducks, they hold a 24-7-1 record, along with a 14-3-0 record when playing in Vegas.
The Ducks, having played on consecutive nights, appeared to struggle with fatigue. Vegas managed to outshoot them 32-23.
Samsonov, after conceding an early goal to Terry, rebounded to prevent a breakaway from Trevor Zegras during the second period.
A pivotal moment happened when the Ducks were on a penalty kill and short-handed due to Isac Lundestrom losing his stick. Mark Stone set up Hertl for a one-timer, resulting in the game-winning goal, which was Hertl's first of the season.
The Golden Knights have scored 15 goals in their opening three games, setting a new franchise record. The Ducks are set to host the Utah Hockey Club on Wednesday, while the Golden Knights will begin a three-game road trip starting with a game against Washington on Tuesday.
