Grant Potulny, the former coach of Northern Michigan, has been named the head coach of the Hartford Wolf Pack, the American Hockey League affiliate of the New York Rangers.
The announcement of Potulny's hiring came from Rangers president Chris Drury. Kris Knoblauch, who started the previous season as Hartford's coach, departed in November to guide the Edmonton Oilers to the Stanley Cup Final.
Potulny's experience includes seven seasons at Northern Michigan, where he achieved a 128-113-17 record with the Wildcats, including two appearances in the CCHA Finals.
Before Northern Michigan, Potulny served as an assistant coach for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, where he contributed to four consecutive Big Ten regular-season titles and the 2014-15 Big Ten tournament championship.
In addition to his college coaching experience, Potulny has also coached Team USA in various international tournaments.
His playing career includes five seasons in the minor leagues after being drafted by the Ottawa Senators. While at Minnesota, he captained the team to national titles in the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons.
