The Blue Jackets conveyed their sorrow, describing the deaths as an unimaginable tragedy. Fans gathered to pay their respects outside arenas in Columbus and Calgary.
Johnny Gaudreau had a standout career at Boston College, winning the Hobey Baker Award. He also emerged as a prominent prospect in the USHL with the Dubuque Fighting Saints and represented the U.S. in multiple world championships.
Shock and sadness were expressed by both current and former NHL players, who shared their condolences on social media.
