In Game 2 of the second-round Western Conference series, Miro Heiskanen, a defenseman for Dallas, netted two goals during power plays, and Roope Hintz played a pivotal role by scoring once and setting up three goals, leading to a 5-3 triumph over the Colorado Avalanche.
Tyler Seguin netted his initial goal of the postseason, a short-handed effort, towards the end of the second period, extending the Stars' lead to 4-0. An additional goal was scored by Esa Lindell into an empty net, following an assist from Hintz, just 20 seconds before the game concluded.
Jake Oettinger, the goaltender for Dallas, blocked 28 shots from Colorado, the team that had scored the most during the regular season. Despite a late effort from Avalanche players Joel Kiviranta, Andrew Cogliano, and Brandon Duhaime, who each scored in the third period, their inability to capitalize on a power play in the last three minutes sealed their fate.
After only scoring an empty-net goal in the previous series, Hintz's early goal in the second period put Dallas ahead by 2-0. Heiskanen increased the lead to 3-0 with a shot that ricocheted off Cogliano. Seguin, during a penalty on Hintz, scored a short-hander, marking his first in the 123 playoff games he's played, bringing the score to 4-0.
The Avalanche, having overturned a 3-0 deficit in Game 1 to win in overtime and extend their winning streak to five games, could not replicate their comeback, hindered by self-inflicted penalties and missed opportunities on power plays.
Nathan MacKinnon, a finalist for the league MVP, was penalized for delaying the game, which led to Dallas scoring the opening
