Hockey Icon Wayne Simmonds Announces Retirement; Flyers Set to Tribute Him on April 13

On Monday, Wayne Simmonds, a forward with a career spanning 15 seasons across six NHL teams, declared his retirement.

During a match against the New Jersey Devils on April 13, the Philadelphia Flyers are set to pay tribute to Simmonds. His tenure with the Flyers lasted from 2011 to 2019, marking eight seasons.

At 35, Simmonds concluded his career having played 1,037 games, during which he netted 263 goals and as many assists, on top of racking up 1,313 minutes in penalties.

Throughout his career, Simmonds helped his teams reach the Stanley Cup playoffs nine times, contributing a total of 22 points across 53 playoff appearances.

In recognition of his leadership on and off the ice, Simmonds was awarded the Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award for the 2018-19 season.
