Edmonton Oilers News & Updates

Zach Hyman of the Edmonton Oilers accomplished a natural hat trick, propelling his team to a commanding 7-2 win against the Washington Capitals on a Wednesday evening.

Leon Draisaitl made significant contributions with a goal during a power play and three assists, alongside Connor McDavid who also scored a goal on a power play and provided two assists. Goals were also scored by Warren Foegele and Connor Brown for Edmonton, while Stuart Skinner defended the net with 23 saves.

Following his stellar performance, Hyman is now just four goals away from reaching the 50-goal milestone, surpassing his previous best of 36 goals from the last season. Kris Knoblauch, the Oilers' head coach, highlighted Hyman’s exceptional leadership, aggressive forechecking, and scoring skills.

On the Capitals' side, Ivan Miroshnichenko and Connor McMichael managed to score, and goalie Darcy Kuemper made 30 saves. Tom Wilson, a forward for Washington, expressed frustration over their missed opportunities and struggles with puck control.

Hyman's opening goal, which untied the game at 2-2, occurred before the first period ended. He followed up with a second goal in the subsequent period, and just before the period closed, he scored again during a power play. Assists for Edmonton’s fourth and fifth goals came from Ryan McLeod and Evander Kane, respectively.

Connor Brown netted his season's first goal, eliciting an extended standing ovation from the Oilers' fans. Brown showed his appreciation for the fans’ support, acknowledging his offensive challenges this season.

The Capitals aim to bounce back during their five-game road journey, facing Seattle next on Thursday. The Oilers look forward to playing against Colorado on Saturday, marking the second match of their four-game homestand.
