Zach Hyman led the Edmonton Oilers to a decisive 7-4 win against the Los Angeles Kings in their series-opening playoff match, helping them avoid falling behind early in the series.

Hyman was at the forefront with three goals, and Connor McDavid assisted on five occasions. The goal-scoring team also included Adam Henrique, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Leon Draisaitl, and Warren Foegele, with Evan Bouchard chipping in with four assists.

Breaking a pattern of losing their first game in the last seven playoff series, the Oilers bounced back from an initial 2-0 deficit to the Kings. Stuart Skinner contributed with 33 saves for Edmonton.

In their efforts, the Kings saw goals from Mikey Anderson, Adrian Kempe, Pierre-Luc Dubois, and Trevor Moore, while Cam Talbot defended the net with 38 saves.

The Oilers are now leading the series by a game, looking forward to extending their lead in Game 2, which is scheduled for Wednesday night.

Hyman, who had missed an early opportunity, scored with help from McDavid. Henrique's wrist shot further extended their lead, marking a Stanley Cup playoff milestone for the longest time between goals.

McDavid set Hyman up for another goal during the second period. Following Edmonton's power play goal from Draisaitl to Nugent-Hopkins, the Kings managed to score thanks to Anderson and Kempe.

In the final period, power play goals by Draisaitl and Hyman were met with cheers and hats from the Oilers supporters. Goals by Dubois and Moore narrowed the Oilers' lead, but Foegele's empty-net goal ultimately clinched their victory.
