Carolina Hurricanes News & Updates

Igor Shesterkin successfully recorded his second consecutive shutout by stopping 28 shots, leading the New York Rangers to a narrow 1-0 victory against the Carolina Hurricanes in a clash between the top teams of the Metropolitan Division.

The decisive moment for the Rangers came near the end of the first period when Adam Fox scored the only goal of the game. The goal proved to be crucial, especially as the Hurricanes opted for an additional attacker in the game's closing moments. This loss for Carolina halted their three-game win streak and widened the Rangers' lead to six points, with only 17 games left in the season.

With this game, Shesterkin has now kept his net untouched in two consecutive matches, following a 26-save shutout against St. Louis. This impressive feat marked his third shutout of the season. Meanwhile, Jake Guentzel experienced his first game for the Hurricanes after being traded from Pittsburgh, managing a single shot on goal in slightly more than 15 minutes on the ice.

The sole goal of the match came when Fox's attempt ricocheted off Brady Skjei's skate before it snuck past Pyotr Kochetkov, just seconds before the first period concluded. Chris Kreider and Ryan Lindgren contributed assists to the pivotal goal.

The Rangers were without the services of center Matt Rempe, who is serving a four-game suspension following an elbowing incident involving Jonas Siegenthaler of the New Jersey Devils.

Looking ahead, the Rangers are slated to play against Tampa Bay on Thursday, while the Hurricanes will welcome Florida on the same day.
