New Jersey Devils News & Updates

New Jersey Devils defenseman Luke Hughes is set to be sidelined for six to eight weeks due to a shoulder injury.

Hughes injured his left shoulder while training in the offseason. Although surgery is not required, the recovery period may extend beyond six weeks.

This timeframe implies that Hughes could miss the Devils' preseason schedule of seven games and their first two regular-season matches, including the opener against the Buffalo Sabres.

Hughes had an impressive rookie season, scoring six goals and totaling 47 points over all 82 games.

His performance was notable enough to secure a third-place finish in the Calder Trophy voting.

Hughes, along with Brock Faber, was one of only two rookie defensemen to play in all 82 games last season, and they were tied for second in points among rookies.

Once he returns, Hughes is expected to be a key player in the Devils' quest for the playoffs.

Last season, the Devils had a strong performance with 52 wins and a playoff appearance, but they missed the playoffs this season.

The team has since replaced Lindy Ruff with Sheldon Keefe as their new head coach.
