The game's decisive moment came when Kyle Palmieri netted a goal at 1:17 in the overtime period, ensuring the Islanders' triumph. Contributions also came from Pierre Engvall and Casey Cizikas who each put the puck in the net for New York, and Semyon Varlamov blocked 13 shots.

The Canadiens saw their goals scored by Cole Caufield and Jordan Harris, with Sam Montembault making an impressive 30 saves despite the loss. This game marked Montreal's fourth defeat in their last five outings.

This victory highlighted Palmieri's impressive run, as he has now scored in four consecutive games. In addition to his goal, Cizikas also assisted on another, and Adam Pelech provided two assists, bolstering New York's performance.

An unfortunate moment for the Islanders occurred when Noah Dobson had to exit the game in the first period due to an injury and did not return. Nonetheless, Cizikas played a pivotal role in overcoming a one-goal disadvantage on two occasions.
