Kyle Palmieri found the net twice and Brock Nelson added a goal along with two assists, guiding the New York Islanders to a 3-1 win over the St. Louis Blues, thus snapping a three-game losing streak.
Ilya Sorokin achieved his 100th career victory for the Islanders by stopping 24 shots, whereas Jordan Binnington recorded 28 saves for the Blues but was unable to prevent the loss.
Palmieri began the scoring in the first period, with Nelson increasing the lead in the second with a goal during a power play. Jake Neighbours narrowed the gap for the Blues with a power-play goal in the third, but Palmieri secured the win with a goal into an empty net.
Though the Blues' power play has been struggling this season, Neighbours’ goal could potentially mark a turnaround.
The Islanders have had difficulties maintaining leads in the third period, but they held firm against the Blues. Nelson advanced in the Islanders’ scoring rankings, matching John Tonelli in ninth place with 544 points.
A third-period goal by Noah Dobson was disallowed due to goaltender interference, which was a pivotal moment in the match.
The Islanders continue to face challenges with conceding power-play goals and performing at home this season. They are set to host Detroit next, while the Blues will take on the New York Rangers on Monday.
