Bo Horvat's goal during the shootout helped the New York Islanders secure a 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday evening. Ilya Sorokin successfully blocked all three of Pittsburgh's attempts in the shootout and made a total of 32 saves throughout the game.
Kyle Palmieri added to the Islanders' efforts with a goal and an assist, helping them overcome a 3-1 deficit in the third period. Simon Holmstrom and Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored within just over three minutes of each other to tie the game.
For Pittsburgh, Evgeni Malkin stood out with a goal and an assist, while Sidney Crosby edged closer to a milestone with his 598th career goal. Michael Bunting also found the back of the net for the Penguins, who have struggled recently by losing seven out of their last nine games.
In the analysis, it is highlighted that Crosby has accumulated 135 points in 87 games against the Islanders, making it the highest point total for any active player against a single team. The Islanders introduced Isaiah George, a 20-year-old defenseman, to their lineup, as Adam Pelech and Mike Reilly did not play.
A notable moment in the second period was when Holmstrom missed a chance to tie the game after an errant pass from Ryan Graves. The Islanders' penalty kill has allowed seven goals on 13 home power-play opportunities.
The Penguins are scheduled to face the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday, while the Islanders will be heading to Ottawa for their next game on the same night.
