In the second period, Jonny Brodzinski netted a crucial goal, propelling the New York Rangers to a 4-2 victory over the New York Islanders on Sunday. The Rangers' victory also featured goals from Mika Zibanejad, Will Cuylle, Kaapo Kakko, and Alexis Lafreniere, marking their fifth win in the last six matches. In goal, Igor Shesterkin contributed with 25 saves.

For the Islanders, Bo Horvat was notable, scoring two goals, while goalie Ilya Sorokin stopped 26 shots. Despite these efforts, the team faced their fourth straight loss.

The game's dynamics shifted in the second period when the Rangers scored three times, overturning a one-goal disadvantage to secure a 3-2 lead. Following Horvat's goal that evened the score at 2-2, Brodzinski's successful redirect ushered the Rangers into the lead at 15:01.

The Rangers' rally began when Ryan Lindgren assisted Cuylle in breaking away, taking a 2-1 lead. Shortly after, Zibanejad's powerful slap shot equalized the game at 1-1, just 27 seconds into the second period.

Kakko widened the Rangers' lead by scoring 2:36 into the third period. This was followed up by Lafreniere's goal, set up by Artemi Panarin, raising the score to 5-2.

The scoring opened in the first period with Horvat's skilled shot from a tight angle, overcoming Shesterkin at 14:08.

Looking ahead, the Rangers are set to play the Winnipeg Jets at home on Tuesday, while the Islanders will welcome the Carolina Hurricanes the same day.
