New York Islanders News & Updates

In a pivotal match, Semyon Varlamov guided the New York Islanders to a significant 2-0 win over the Nashville Predators, marking his third shutout this season with a remarkable tally of 41 saves.

The Islanders saw goals from Noah Dobson and Kyle Palmieri, contributing to their streak of four wins in a row. This victory placed them in the third spot in the Eastern Conference, pushing them two points clear of both Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

Varlamov, having been the goaltender for four of the recent six games, attributed his performance to good fortune, mentioning, "Luck was definitely on my side today."

With this win, the Islanders concluded a 10-game losing streak against the Predators that started back in 2017. Casey Cizikas highlighted the collective team effort, which was bolstered by Varlamov's critical saves and effective penalty kills.

On the opposite end, Kevin Lankinen made 28 saves for the Predators, who have now faced losses in four out of their last five games. Despite generating chances, Predators coach Andrew Brunette pointed out the team's difficulty in finding the back of the net.

The game's first goal came from Dobson in the second period with a wrist shot, set up by Mathew Barzal, while Palmieri sealed the victory with an empty-net goal towards the end of the match.

The Islanders also had a moment with their former coach Barry Trotz, now the Predators' general manager. Trotz, who left after the 2021-22 season, expressed his admiration for the Islanders' defensive game despite being on the opposing side.
