Philadelphia Flyers News & Updates

The Philadelphia Flyers have secured goaltender Ivan Fedotov for an additional two years, thus ensuring he doesn't become a free agent this offseason.

At 27, Fedotov's contract will affect the salary cap by $3.25 million each season.

The Flyers have eagerly awaited Fedotov's move to the NHL for nearly a decade. Despite being chosen 18th overall in the 2015 draft, he spent eight years playing in the Kontinental Hockey League.

Although he signed with the Flyers in May 2022, his transition to North American hockey was postponed due to his detention by Russian authorities for military duty. He then joined CSKA in the KHL after serving, which pushed his contract with the Flyers to the current season.

CSKA released him from his KHL contract after their playoff run ended, maintaining his rights in the Russian league. This allowed Fedotov to make his long-awaited NHL debut on April 1. In his first three games, he had a record of 0-1-1 and a save percentage of .811.

Danny Briere, the Flyers' general manager, opted not to comment on the specifics of Fedotov's departure from Russia.

Looking ahead to the 2024-25 season, the Flyers have solidified their goalie lineup with Fedotov and Samuel Ersson, who has also been extended through 2026. Ersson appeared in 51 games for the Flyers, who did not make the playoffs.

Meanwhile, former starting goalie Carter Hart is on an indefinite leave due to sexual assault charges and remains a restricted free agent.
