Ottawa Senators News & Updates

Jacob Markstrom blocked 30 shots but his hopes for a shutout were dashed in the final moments as the New Jersey Devils defeated the Ottawa Senators 3-1. Scoring for the Devils were Erik Haula, Nathan Bastian, and Paul Cotter.

Despite following an 8-7 victory, the Senators found it difficult to break past Markstrom. Brady Tkachuk managed to net the sole goal for Ottawa just 65 seconds before the end of the third period.

Anton Forsberg defended the net with 32 saves for the Senators. The scoring began when Haula found the net early in the second period, and Bastian increased the lead with a short-handed goal, putting New Jersey ahead 2-0 by the end of the second period. Cotter's goal came midway through the third period.

A pivotal moment occurred when, with the Devils playing short-handed, a turnover by Claude Giroux gave Nathan Bastian the opportunity to score his first goal of the season.

On the statistical front, Tkachuk's goal continued his point streak to five consecutive games, tallying three goals and three assists during this span.

Looking ahead, the Senators will face the Tampa Bay Lightning at home, while New Jersey will take on the Washington Capitals, with both games scheduled for Saturday.
