New Jersey Devils News & Updates

The New Jersey Devils have added goaltender Jacob Markstrom from the Calgary Flames in exchange for player Kevin Bahl and a first-round pick in the 2025 draft, which is protected if in the top 10 selections.

Markstrom agreed to waive his no-trade clause for this move and has two more seasons left on his contract, each worth $6 million annually.

Interest in Markstrom from the Devils has been evident since the March trade deadline. Reports suggest he was discontent with the Flames for months and open to an earlier trade.

Last season, Markstrom recorded a 23-23-2 standing, boasting a .905 save percentage and a 2.78 goals-against average.

He is expected to form a goaltending pair with veteran Jake Allen on the Devils' roster.

Following this trade, the Flames are likely to rely on Dan Vladar and Dustin Wolf as their main goaltenders.
