The Dallas Stars have secured Jake Oettinger, their goalie, with a contract extension spanning eight years and worth $66 million.
This agreement results in an annual salary cap impact of $8.25 million and features a signing bonus amounting to $23 million.
Over his career, Oettinger has played in 196 games, achieving a record of 116-48-23. He is recognized as one of the leading goalies in the league when considering goals-against average, save percentage, and total wins.
Oettinger has been instrumental in the Stars reaching the playoffs for three consecutive seasons and advancing to the Western Conference final in the last two. His playoff performance is notable, maintaining a .915 save percentage and a 2.46 goals-against average.
General Manager Jim Nill expressed that Jake has proven himself to be a top-tier goaltender in the NHL. Nill emphasized that Oettinger is a vital member of the team and will play a key role in their pursuit of a Stanley Cup this season and in the future.
This extension for Oettinger follows similar agreements made by Boston for Jeremy Swayman, Ottawa for Linus Ullmark, and Seattle for Joey Daccord.
Igor Shesterkin, a goalie for the New York Rangers, currently remains without a new contract and may potentially become the highest-paid goalie in the league.
