Jakob Silfverberg, a forward for the Anaheim Ducks, announced he would retire after the 2023-24 season wraps up.
Initially drafted by Ottawa in 2009, Silfverberg became a part of the Ducks in 2013. Over his tenure with Anaheim, he appeared in 817 games, netting 168 goals and amassing a total of 373 points.
He thanked the Samueli family, along with his teammates, the staff, and his family for their unwavering support throughout his career. Silfverberg has been a key figure for the Ducks, securing a spot among the franchise's all-time top players in various statistical categories.
During his 69 playoff games, he tallied 18 goals and added 27 assists for 45 points, playing a pivotal role in leading Anaheim to the Western Conference finals on two occasions. His performance in the 2022-23 season earned him a nomination for the Bill Masterton Trophy.
Pat Verbeek, the General Manager of the Ducks, commended Silfverberg for his exemplary character, leadership, and significant contributions both on the ice and in the community.
Before making his move to North America, Silfverberg had an outstanding final season with Brynas in 2011-12, capturing the MVP title and leading the team to a league championship.
