Jets Blank Oilers in Season Opener with Hellebuyck's 38th Career Shutout

In Edmonton, Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck achieved a clean sheet by saving 30 shots, leading the team to a decisive 6-0 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday evening.

Mason Appleton added to the scoreboard with a goal and two assists. Meanwhile, Adam Lowry and Mark Scheifele both contributed with a goal and an assist. Goals were also scored by Rasmus Kupari, Dylan Samberg, and Kyle Connor for the Jets.

Even though they managed to outshoot Winnipeg 30-20, the Oilers couldn't clinch the win. Stuart Skinner, their starting goalie, conceded five goals on 13 shots before being substituted by Calvin Pickard, who allowed one goal on seven shots.

Kyle Connor of the Jets made NHL history by scoring in a season opener for the seventh year in a row.

Leon Draisaitl from Edmonton had his streak of earning points on opening night come to an end at eight consecutive games.

A pivotal juncture in the match occurred when Winnipeg scored two goals within a span of 20 seconds early in the second period, establishing a strong 4-0 lead.

The Jets took full advantage of their initial chances, netting four goals from their first 10 shots.

The Oilers are set to host Chicago on Saturday, while the Jets will kick off their four-game homestand against the Blackhawks on Friday.
