In the Eastern Conference Final's second game, Jimmy Vesey, a forward for the New York Rangers, incurred an upper-body injury and is now on a week-by-week recovery timetable.
The injury came about due to a collision with Ryan Lomberg, a forward for the Florida Panthers. Vesey was unable to rejoin the game in the final period, and he is currently under further evaluation.
Despite not having Vesey on the ice, the Rangers secured an overtime victory in Game 2, leveling the series at one apiece. Throughout the playoffs, Vesey has been a crucial component of the team's lower six.
Peter Laviolette, the coach of the Rangers, has not named who will step in for Vesey. Nonetheless, he highlighted the team's resilient roster, which has adeptly navigated through various injuries during the playoffs.
Blake Wheeler, a seasoned forward who has been absent due to a leg injury since February, presents a potential fill-in. Despite being benched for Game 2, Wheeler is now eligible to play. Laviolette pointed out that Wheeler needs to prove he's battle-ready beyond just being physically fit.
The third game of the series is slated for a 3 p.m. kickoff on Sunday.
