Jonathan Drouin, a forward for the Colorado Avalanche, will be absent from the team's first-round playoff matchup against Winnipeg because of an injury to his lower body.
The injury occurred when Drouin fell during the second period of the match against Edmonton on Thursday. Following the incident, he had to exit the game and did not make a comeback.
On Saturday, the Avalanche conducted a practice session before setting off to Winnipeg. The initial game of the series is scheduled to take place there on Sunday.
Having joined the Avalanche as a free agent the previous summer, Drouin showcased his best performance this season, amassing 56 points with 19 goals and 37 assists. He frequently shared the ice with Mikko Rantanen and Nathan MacKinnon, the latter achieving a personal best of 140 points this season.
Selected by Tampa Bay as the third overall pick in the 2013 draft, Drouin has played in 564 regular-season games throughout his career, netting a total of 96 goals.
In response to Drouin’s absence, Colorado has promoted Brad Hunt, a defenseman, Chris Wagner, a forward, and Arvid Holm, a goaltender, from the American Hockey League's Colorado Eagles.
