In Seattle, the St. Louis Blues secured a 3-2 win over the Seattle Kraken in the opening match of the season, with Jordan Kyrou playing a pivotal role.
Kyrou overcame an early two-goal deficit by scoring twice in less than two minutes near the end of the second period. Philip Broberg also added a goal for the Blues, with all three goals happening within 1 minute and 55 seconds.
Assists for the initial two goals were provided by Justin Faulk, and additional support came from Robert Thomas, Dylan Holloway, and Alexandre Texier.
The Kraken's scorers, Vince Dunn and Eeli Tolvanen, couldn't leverage their home advantage, despite outshooting the Blues 32-25.
Blues' goalie Jordan Binnington recorded 30 saves, while Philipp Grubauer made 22 saves for Seattle.
Insights from the game indicate that Kyrou's quick start may reflect a continuation of his strong 31-goal performance from last season. Additionally, the match was significant for the Kraken as it was their first home-ice season opener where they initially led.
A crucial moment came when the Blues seized the lead just 20 seconds after equalizing, thanks to Texier's setup for Kyrou, leading to an easy wrist shot.
Notably, the Blues scored on three of four shots during a short 1:55 span in the second period, ending Grubauer's run of 13 consecutive saves.
Looking ahead, the Blues are scheduled to continue their road journey in San Jose on Thursday, while the Kraken will travel to Minnesota on Saturday.
