Colorado Avalanche News & Updates

Mikko Rantanen, a key player for the Colorado Avalanche, will be sidelined for the upcoming Sunday match against the Dallas Stars following an injury he sustained in a recent game against Edmonton. Rantanen is currently undergoing concussion protocol after the incident.

This break in play interrupts Rantanen’s impressive run of 161 straight games. His absence comes at a challenging time for the Avalanche who are trying to close a three-point gap with the Stars, with only five games left in the season.

Having contributed significantly this season with 40 goals and 62 assists, Rantanen was forced to exit the game against Edmonton following a collision with Oilers defenseman Mattias Ekholm. Although he was seen practicing alone on Sunday, his status is considered day-to-day.

Jonathan Drouin, a teammate, has voiced the team’s concerns, highlighting Rantanen’s critical role in the squad.

In addition to Rantanen’s situation, the Avalanche will also be without Miles Wood, who has encountered a lower-body injury, and like Rantanen, is deemed day-to-day.

In response to these challenges, the Avalanche have bolstered their roster by bringing in Casey Mittelstadt, Brandon Duhaime, and Yakov Trenin, aiming to solidify their lineup ahead of the trade deadline.

Coach Jared Bednar has underscored the importance of roster depth when competing against top-tier teams and remains hopeful that his team can navigate through these current challenges.
