The Los Angeles Kings have brought in goaltender Darcy Kuemper from the Washington Capitals in a deal that sends center Pierre-Luc Dubois to Washington.
At the age of 25, Dubois joined the Kings last June from the Winnipeg Jets but faced challenges in his first season with the team. Kuemper, who is 34, has a decorated career including a Stanley Cup win with the Colorado Avalanche in 2022.
The Kings sought a dependable goaltender after inconsistent showings from Cam Talbot and David Rittich. They are optimistic that Kuemper will provide a solid and reliable presence in the net.
On the other side, the Capitals needed to address the center position following the trade of Evgeny Kuznetsov and Nicklas Backstrom's departure due to injuries. They have high hopes that Dubois can evolve into a leading NHL center.
Kuemper has had a brief stint with the Kings before, playing 19 games in the 2017-18 season before being traded to the Arizona Coyotes.
