Carolina Hurricanes News & Updates

In the Tampa Bay Lightning's season opener, Nikita Kucherov netted a hat trick in the third period, leading them to a 4-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Kucherov broke the game’s tie with a powerful slap shot during a power play, followed by two more goals into an empty net to secure the victory. Brayden Point also scored for the Lightning on the power play.

Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy blocked 20 shots, while Frederick Andersen made 19 saves for the Hurricanes. Jordan Staal put one in the net for Carolina.

The team stayed in Raleigh for three days because of Hurricane Milton, and captain Victor Hedman highlighted the significance of playing well for their affected community.

Amid numerous lineup changes, the Hurricanes faced challenges in creating scoring chances and were often penalized. It was Kucherov's power-play goal, set up by Hedman, that made the difference.

The Hurricanes will play against New Jersey on Tuesday, with the Lightning taking on Vancouver at home. Their game in Florida was postponed because of Hurricane Milton's effects.
