Dylan Larkin made a notable comeback after missing eight games, scoring twice, and Andrew Copp ended a 20-game goalless streak with two goals of his own as the Detroit Red Wings triumphed over the faltering New York Islanders with a score of 6-3 last Thursday evening.
Larkin, coming back from an injury, netted his 27th and 28th goals of the season, playing a critical role in Detroit's revenge over their previous defeat to the Islanders.
Christian Fischer, who contributed a goal and two assists, commended Larkin for his crucial role in the team, acknowledging him as a premier center.
Noteworthy assists came from Patrick Kane, Michael Rasmussen, and Alex DeBrincat, while James Reimer's 33 saves were instrumental for the Red Wings, who have secured victories in three of their recent four matches.
Larkin spoke on the team's durability in face of recent challenges, expressing, "Every season is long and things happen. We've got a special group and we showed it tonight."
Scoring for the Islanders were Mike Reilly, Jean-Gabriel Pageau, and Mathew Barzal, with Ilya Sorokin stopping 18 shots. In spite of their recent difficulties, their coach Patrick Roy lauded the team's performance, expressing they merited a victory. Following Fischer's initial goal and Reilly's equalizer for the Islanders, Detroit surged ahead with goals from Copp and Larkin, with Copp scoring again and Kane widening the lead to 5-1. Despite efforts from Pageau and Barzal, Larkin's empty-net goal ensured a Detroit victory.
Islanders coach Derek Lalonde recognized the substantial boost Larkin's return provided, remarking, "Quality win, great team win. A huge positive and we needed it."
