Jon Cooper, the head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning, issued an apology for using an inappropriate comparison involving dressing goalies in skirts during a media interaction.
The remarks by Cooper were made following a Game 5 defeat which saw his team knocked out of the playoffs. He voiced his discontent with two contentious calls on goalie interference that played a role in securing a win for Florida.
Cooper showed genuine remorse, highlighting his role as a father to two daughters who are engaged in athletic endeavors and his advocacy for women's hockey. He shared his intention to extend an apology to his daughters, mentioning that the fallout from his language had caused him more distress than the playoff exit.
In spite of this incident, Cooper's tenure over 11 seasons with the Lightning has been marked by significant achievements, including making it to the playoffs on 10 occasions and capturing the Stanley Cup twice.
